As a child growing up in the state of New Mexico, I had a hunger for knowledge of the horse that was always driving me. Unfortunately, there was nothing much to find that was geared toward children or youth. After gleaning everything I could from Dad's knowledge, I pestered my horse boarding neighbor, Frank, always hanging around the barn, asking question after question, and practically begging for someone to teach me. I will never forget Frank's words concerning caring for horses, "Anything worth doing takes hard work."

After moving to Texas I finally got to own horses and raise two from foals, learning and making many mistakes.

My heart was broken after marrying, when the means to care for them was gone and I had to sell them in order for them to be cared for properly. When my oldest daughter entered college, I was a single Mom. I applied for grants and lived with my younger daughter in Kansas for a year while I completed a certificate program from Dodge City Community College in Equine Sciences.

Upon returning to Texas, I completed two internships on breeding farms, and completed my Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Equine Sciences through the online program at Dodge City Community College.  While finishing up my daughter's home-schooled High School years, I taught Equine Sciences to the students who had interest in it with the local homeschool coop. This is when I discovered that there are lots of youth out there that have the same hunger for knowledge of the horse that I have always had.

I decided to write and illustrate what I had been teaching. The format is similar to graphic novel form (comic book) in order to appeal to the young at heart! Most of the illustrations are from photos of my own horses that I raised as a youth or owned as a young adult, so the curriculum is full of my own memories of very special equine.

My copywright gives you permission to make copies within one family or one small class.
